A Michigan native, Laura Kempa Bogan currently leads the choral programming at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Ann Arbor. She conducts the adult Chorale in weekly liturgies, where they sing traditional sacred choral repertoire. Ms. Bogan also directs the children’s choir program at the parish school, where over one hundred young singers serve at school and parish liturgies throughout the year. The Middle School Choir also regularly travels to participate in Pueri Cantores Festivals, including the International Congress in Rome in December 2023. Ms. Bogan is active as a singer at St. Francis, singing as a cantor and with chamber ensembles at the parish.
Previously, Ms. Bogan served as the Director of Choral Activities at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, conducting the University Chorale and Chamber Singers, and teaching voice, diction, choral conducting, and choral methods. During her tenure at Saint Xavier, the choral ensembles partnered with several other organizations in the community, including the Cathedral Choir at St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet, the Southwest Symphony Orchestra, and outreach with area K-12 schools. In collaboration with ACDA Illinois and Chicago Public School colleagues, she led Saint Xavier in hosting the inaugural "Join Voices, Chicago!" festival, a choral festival focused on celebrating and supporting choral music in urban schools, offering clinics and a festival experience at no cost to participants. Ms. Bogan was an active choral singer in Chicago as well, appearing with the William Ferris Chorale, Rockefeller Decani, Chicago Choral Artists, and La Caccina.
Ms. Bogan is a proud alumna of the University of Michigan (B.M. Choral Music Education) and Boston University (M.M. Choral Conducting). Her teachers include Drs. Ann Jones, Scott Jarrett, Paul Rardin, and Jerry Blackstone (Conducting), Dr. Caroline Helton (Voice) and Dr. James Kibbie and James R. Brown (organ).
