Cecilia Kowara is a senior at the University of Michigan studying vocal performance and organ performance. She has been studying voice privately for eight years, currently under Professor Daniel Washington. She has sung in numerous professional choirs including the Schola of the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit, the St. Cecilia and Resurrection Choirs of St. John Cantius in Chicago, and the University of Michigan Chamber Choir. She has sung multiple solos in the University Choirs, including Niccolo Jommelli’s “Magnificat”, J.S. Bach’s “Christ lag im Todesbanden, BWV 4” and Susan Botti’s new work, “Vespers”. Cecilia developed a deep love for choral music at a young age and it continues to grow everyday.
In addition to voice, Cecilia Kowara began taking organ lessons with Dr. Kola Owolabi in early 2019, quickly fell in love with the instrument and auditioned into the performance program. She is currently studying with Peter Sykes at the University of Michigan. Cecilia is the organist and music director at St. Mary of Redford. She has performed in various recitals, including Ss. Peter and Paul First Friday Recital Series and the University of Michigan Organ Conference. Cecilia plans to pursue a masters degree in choral conducting in Fall 2023.
